Frequently asked questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about air compressors and their answers.

What does an air compressor do?

An air compressor draws in air from its surroundings, compresses and stores it at a higher pressure, and then releasing it for various functions.

What is an air compressor used for?

From powering tools to inflating objects, they have many uses across several industries, including construction, manufacturing, food processing, agriculture and more. Common applications include inflating tyres, spray painting, cleaning dust and dirt off surfaces, and powering refrigerators.

They can be found in industrial, workshop, home and DIY settings.

How many psi is a good air compressor?

This varies depending on application, however anything ranging from 90-120 psi is often deemed good for most pneumatic tools like blow guns, paint sprayers and nail guns. Both air compressors stocked by Kite have a 100 psi.

PSI stands for pounds per square inch. It is a unit of measure used for quantifying:

  • Pressure a gas or liquid exerts on a container
  • Resistance to pulling forces
  • A material’s resistance to deformation

What types of air compressors does Kite Packaging stock?

Both of our models are diaphragm pump air compressors, meaning they employ flexible membranes to pressurise and release gas.

They are also oil-free, meaning no oil is present in their compression chamber in order to provide a pure air supply.
