Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM)
The Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM) is designed to assess household packaging (primary and shipment packaging) reported under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for fee modulation starting in 2026.
The use of widely recycled materials will be incentivised through lower fees. Packaging will be categorised into a traffic light system based on the recyclability of the material.
Each item of household packaging will need to be assessed and reported as either:
Red | Not commonly recycled | (Highest modulated fee) |
Amber | Limited recycling | (Middle modulated fee) |
Green | Widely recycled | (Lowest modulated fee) |
This classification is dependent on the ease of collection, sortation, reprocessing of the material and application of the recycled material.
The government is proposing that this additional reporting requirement will apply to the EPR data you report for the period January to June 2025 in July 2025.
The RAM is currently being developed, and we will be providing a service to help companies assess their household packaging affected by RAM.
