Kite wins Design team of the Year at UK Packaging Awards!

By Jake Kirk • Monday 1st January 0001

Kite Packaging emerged triumphant as Design Team of the Year after much eager anticipation. The result was announced at the UK Packaging Awards 2022 which took place Wednesday evening and we couldn’t be prouder.

We were also highly commended for Packaging Company of the Year!

This prestigious award is a fantastic acknowledgment of all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes here at Kite and demonstrates the wealth of customer-focussed talent our industry-leading specialists have. It’s real recognition of Kite’s unique strengths, teamwork and design, which have enabled us to help our customers with innovative packaging solutions time and time again.

Our load retention specialists work closely with customers, offering savings through innovative stretch films and application equipment. They perform audits, identifying areas for improvement where cost-effectivity and efficiency can be increased, helping to achieve up to 70% reduction in plastic usage. Similarly, our in-the-box team partner with customers to explore how automation can increase packing velocity often with environmental solutions.

Through significant research, development and testing, Kite’s specialist design teams have helped many clients simply by addressing sustainability challenges. One such example is when a client wanted to enhance their custom packaging to replace unsustainable elements with sustainable ones. A corrugated outer holding was supported by stratocell foam fittings to secure parts, which are notoriously difficult to recycle.

The design team identified considerable ‘dead space’ within the packaging. After multiple iterations, a final design was achieved with greater sustainability, reducing the carbon footprint of the goods being shipped. Now smaller and made with kerbside recyclable corrugated fibre board, the new pack can hold two parts per box, halving materials, energy consumption during manufacture, and carbon emissions during transit.

The final result demonstrates Kite’s attention to detail with regards to entire supply chains when coming up with solutions, distinguishing Kite’s Design Team from competitors.

Supported by our state-of-the-art Mobile Packaging Laboratory, our design team are able to travel to customer sites for full engagement and understanding of their supply chains. Onboard, they can discuss requirements, test different solutions and view alternative sustainable technology that may benefit their operation, demonstrating just how much we can do for our clients.
