How to package large frames - The Packaging Doctor
Very large items can be a headscratcher to package,
especially if you’re used to seeing a range limited to large envelopes and
boxes in your local Post Office or supermarket. By ordering your packaging
online, however, you are able to get creative with our colossal range of
products to find a bespoke solution for you. Once again, our Packaging Doctor
was able to treat the problem troubling Steven which is outlined for any fellow
sufferers below:
Dear Doctor,
I am an artist and have recently enjoyed working on
framed pieces over 1 metre in height. These large pieces are proving popular
which leaves me with the problem: how on earth do I package them? My customers
and myself are always keen to minimise our impact on the environment so would
like 100% recyclable packaging, which rules out bubble wrap. Do you have any
advice?
Best wishes,
Steven
Hi Steven,
Firstly, congratulations on the success of your new
artwork! Larger products do require a little innovation sometimes but I’m sure
we can find a treatment with Kite Packaging’s substantial selection of quality
products.
We offer some extremely versatile Double Wall Corrugated Sheets, which are strong cardboard sheets approximately 5mm
thick with excellent burst resistance. These sheets are one of our most popular
products, largely due to their versatility and strength. Typically used as
dividers or stabilisers, they are specifically designed to protect fragile
products from damage and can be easily cut to size in case you wanted to reuse
them for smaller projects too. However, this cardboard can be bought in lengths
of 1 x 1.2 metres to cater toward your biggest frames and you can use a glue
gun to assemble into boxes.
In terms of void fill, we offer hivewrap as an exciting
new practical and sustainable alternative to bubble wrap. Made from 100%
recyclable and biodegradable kraft paper, Hive would certainly satisfy your
desire to save the planet while offering premium protection to your art. The
expandable honeycomb cells will easily mould around the sharp edges at the
corner of your frame, while taking up less space than bubble wrap would. What’s
more, the intricate hexagonal cells provide an attractive unboxing experience
to complement the aesthetic qualities of your wonderful art.
Do send over some photos if you have a chance, we’d love
to see what you’re making!
All the best,
The Packaging Doctor
