How To Keep Postal Costs Down For Small Businesses: PART 2
In our last post, we gave you some hints on how to keep postal costs down for your business. This time we’re back with even more money-saving tips to help you maintain those low costs, maximise on profits, and continue thriving.
Look out for wholesale prices
As a small business, you can effectively keep unit costs down by buying in bulk. This is particularly useful with packaging essentials: you know you need them and will use them so, why not be smart about it and buy more at a lower price per unit. It’s incredibly cost-effective and is guaranteed to save you significant amounts of money over time, which you can even invest back into your business.
No-brainer, right?
You’re probably thinking, where am I going to store all of this product?
Not to worry, we know buying wholesale is hardly feasible for small businesses, especially if you’re operating out of your home, garage, or somewhere similar and don’t have the room. That's why we’ve done the tough work for you and come up with some space-saving products you can stock up on comfortably.
Space-saving products
We previously touched on hivewrap as a great void fill solution for conserving space, with one 500m roll equating to four rolls of 500mm x 100mm bubble wrap. Did you know our Flexi-hex sleeves are a similarly innovative and compact void fill option? They take up only 20% of the space bubble wrap does, but serve exactly the same purpose whilst being much more aesthetically pleasing. Using Flexi-hex will also boost your green credentials as it is manufactured from 100% recycled content, is kerbside recyclable, and biodegrades in six weeks.
The Speedman box is another easy to use, compact void fill system that will not take up valuable space and can be carried anywhere packing is taking place, making it ideal for small businesses. Along with being low-cost, 100% recycled and recyclable, it is a simple solution for conserving space and increasing sustainability.
Or, you can opt for one of our three varieties of Mini Air machines. These use automation to inflate air cushions and accelerate your packing process so you can focus on getting those orders fulfilled and posted to customers. Mini Air cushions use a thin film of 100% recycled plastic to create effective shock absorption, protecting your goods whilst making you more sustainable. Since the film arrives flat on a roll ready for inflation when needed, it saves significant amounts of storage space in comparison to loose fill chips or bubble wrap.
Buy a mixed pallet
Did you know, certain products can be ordered in conjunction with others on a mixed pallet? Not only does doing this offer fantastic price benefits and help you save money, its grants greater flexibility by not limiting you to purchasing one size and style of product per pallet. Now you can enjoy lower unit costs on multiple products without having to worry about pallet restrictions.
Our single-wall, double-wall, and enviro-box ranges are all available to order on a mixed pallet, as are our Mini Air cushions and select ranges of envelopes.
Use bubble mailers or polymailers
For non-fragile orders such as clothing, consider shipping in mailing bags. These are far more cost-effective than using boxes, which can add unnecessary weight onto parcels and increase your shipping costs. The dimensions are smaller, taking up less room on a delivery truck, and using them requires less packing supplies like tape or bubble wrap, helping to save you money.
Kite’s returnable mailing bags are an ideal choice, providing just the right amount of protection for your non-fragile goods. Their double peel-&-seal strip facilitates smoother returns, allowing recipients to open bags without tearing too much and seal them securely for a second time for returns. It’s a great low-cost packaging product with considerable benefits for both the retailer and customer. Your customers can enjoy a hassle-free returns process while you sit back and enjoy the savings made.
