Happy Employee Ownership Day!
For our American friends 4th of July marks Independence Day, and the USA celebrates with fireworks, barbecues and a day off work to spend time with their families to commemorate the day the Declaration of Independence was signed and America became independent from Great Britain. The National holiday is widely known across the world, however there is another celebration happening on our side of the pond…Employee Ownership Association Day!
This is a great day for our business, which has been built and grown on the foundation of employee ownership. Kite started in 2001 with a small number of partners, all who contributed their own financial investment to the business. From there it has grown from 0 to over £30 million turnover and continues to grow, every new member of the Kite team is required to buy shares in the company so that we can involve everyone in the ethos that ‘customer satisfaction matters so much more when you own the business.’ This has been a long-standing philosophy of Kite Packaging, and as a company we base our success on innovation, sharing in ideas and entrepreneurship – not bureaucracy.
Of course, our partnership approach doesn’t just end at employees. We believe in applying partnership to everything and everyone that we work with. That includes our suppliers and customers – people that have helped the business continue to be successful and strive for progression in every aspect.
The Employee Ownership Association is a brilliant organisation that offers support and guidance to companies like ours, and if you’ve been following the #EODay hashtag on Twitter today you’ll have seen lots of celebrations going on from employee-owned businesses across the UK. These businesses now account for a combined annual turnover in excess of £25 billion and more than 2% GDP. The EOA website – https://employeeownership.co.uk/ – is a great source of information if you want to know more about partnerships, or are thinking of turning your business in to an employee-owned one. Take it from us – it works!
